Kindergarten Math Centers - Quick EASY FUN...and a FREEBIE

Do you need some QUICK and EASY Math Centers for KINDERGARTEN? I've got you covered! 

I jumped headfirst into KINDERGARTEN this year after teaching first grade for many years. It has been so interesting to see the building blocks that lead up to first grade math. 

Of course COUNTING has been the focus for the beginning of school, and now we're getting into simple ADDITION. Here are some activities your students will love! 

We started out with 5 frames and counting to five.

We were also working on language skills with which things go together. 

After most of my students mastered 5 frames, we moved on to 10 frames. 

Since we had already done the 5 Frames, they were much more independent with the activity so we played memory with them in small groups. 

These fun puzzles were just right for more practice.

I still have some who are working with 1-10 but most of my students are ready for going to 20 since we're about 1 quarter into the school year. 

These have  been great for independent centers, too. I have taken to putting them on trays so the cards don't get mixed up. When they've finished, they love "messing it up" and trading with a friend to do another puzzle. 

Fine motor skill building and counting are turned into FUN in this center. There are seasonal and anytime options. I am working on some up to 20 for after winter break! I'll update when they are in my store! 

Using dice has been a great way to build number sense and subitizing skills. We have used these Roll and Color sheets a lot to practice 1-to-1 correspondence and number recognition. 

After winter break, we will start on addition, and I will transition to the Roll, Add, and Color as seen here. 

The sheets are identical, just the numbers are 2-12 instead of 1-6. I have a couple who will still be practicing just counting the dots but will still be able to use a similar resource. Great for differentiation.

Nonfiction Animal Passages with a FREEBIE!

 Have you ever met a kid who didn't like animals? Me either! That is why these NONFICTION ANIMAL PASSAGES will become a staple in your classroom! 

In my Nonfiction Animal Passages library, I have OVER 70 animals to choose from. Each resource has 2 passages: a 1-page easier passage and a 2/3-page more challenging passage. 

The 1-page passages are great for first grade. The longer passages work well in 2nd or 3rd grade and are also engaging enough for struggling older readers. 

After students read the passage, here are some activities you can use to boost comprehension.

Use these vocabulary cards to deepen understanding of new words. All the vocabulary words are highlighted in the passage so students can find the words easily.

Once your students have read and found the vocabulary words, they can complete the vocabulary worksheet. 

2 levels are included, one that goes with the shorter passage and one that goes with the longer one. 

Two levels of comprehension question worksheets are also provided. The 

1-page passage has one sheet and the multiple page passage has questions for each page. 

The 1-page questions can be used with the larger passage as well. 

I have included identical pages with single-line options for older students. 

Some animals have diagrams of their parts which helps with understanding vocabulary.

Some animals have life cycle cut and paste worksheets so students can understand how animals reproduce.

Connecting reading to writing is another feature of these Nonfiction Animal Packs! 

1. In this first grade class, students use the graphic organizer to take notes on what foxes can, have, and are. The student circled the one they selected to write about. 

2. After that, the students used their ideas from the graphic organizer to write sentences on an outline.

3. After a conference with the teacher, the students recopied the report onto fox paper and illustrated.

In this 2nd grade class, students got to choose which animal they wanted to read about.

1. During reading, students used a complex web to outline ideas.

2. They then used the web to formulate facts and details for their writing piece.

3. After conferencing with the teacher, they edited and recopied the piece for a final draft and illustrated.
